Team Jesus Survives the Heat
Team Jesus Racing was at 2 Arizona tracks once again this past weekend. At Ocotillo Raceway, we started Sunday off with a Chapel Service. We had about 25 people attend the service, so that was really nice. It was my first time delivering the message, it was a lot of fun, but scary at the same time. Thanks to Team Jesus member, Josh Zimbal, for putting away the sound equipment (so I could get ready for practice), and thanks to all of you that attended, let’s invite our friends to the service this Sunday at Speedworld, so we can share God’s grace.
The day was hot! So it was testing every ones physical conditioning. The heat didn’t appear to affect Team Jesus rider, Carter Griffin, who took first place overall in the 50cc age 7-8 and the 50 open. Way to go Carter! Carrie Anne Killebrew had a great second moto which gave her a 4th overall for the day. Carrie Anne’s dad, Kyle Killebrew, did not fair as well. Kyle had a crash in practice that put him on the side of the track the rest of the day. Kyle, quit crashing! Trevor Gatewood rode well in the 125 Beginner class, but had a fall in the first corner in the second moto, that made him half to play “catch up”. As for me(Ryan Mortensen), the 250 Pro class had a ton of competition. There were fourteen 250 Pros. It was an awesome turnout for the AMX State Championship race. First moto I road tight, and the second moto I fell in the first corner. So, I did not finish as well as I had hoped and finished 7th overall. I am looking forward to Speedworld to redeem myself.
At ACP, they kicked off the first round of the CMC Cactus State Series. Team Jesus had a few riders competing in the heat. Cody Katsillas rode well Sunday, Cody had good starts this weekend in the 125 JR class and finished 5th overall, even with a crash. In schoolboy, Cody went 3-3 for 3rd overall. Great job Cody! Also, 2 new members of Team Jesus, Brandon Britts and Bruce “Mudslide” Buchanan, competed at ACP. Brandon finished 5th overall in the 125 Beginner class. Brandon looked to be one of the fastest on the track, but had slow starts and a couple crashes. You’ll get them next race Brandon. Bruce smoked everyone in the 50+ class! Way to go Bruce.
This Wednesday don’t forget to go out to ACP. “ACP will have practice this Wednesday night, Sept. 28th, Bikes Only, 6pm to 10pm. There will be free MX Riding Tips sponsored by Team Jesus Racing with guest instructor, Ryan Mortensen. The featured lesson will be Starts.”
Team Jesus Racing’s next chapel service will be October 2nd at Speedworld. Gates open at 6:00am, Chapel Service at 6:30am, and Practice starts at 7:00am. So get there early!!!
Team Jesus would like to thank God for this opportunity to spread His word and love in the motocross community.
